I'm obsessively reading this book about Sarah Winchester and her house of mystery, which apparently wasn't that mysterious. Rumors, lies, assumptions all played a part in creating the illusion of mystery all for the sake of a good story.
I'm surprised I am so invested, as I have only been to the Winchester House once and it gave me nightmares. I should disclose I was 18 years old when I visited. But, I saw the book three times in two days, first at the library and then at work on my office mate's desk. There was some story about the book being donated, which I ignored because I didn't want to read it. When I saw it again at another library I concluded that I was supposed to read it, although why has not yet become clear.
I didn't start reading it for several weeks, mostly because I was afraid it would give me nightmares. Having started it now, I have discovered that it has proven a good distraction from other unsavory events in my periphery.
